Levi sat stiffly on the edge of an uncomfortable seat made of plastic, his hands clenched together in his lap as his grey eyes watched his five-year-old son run around multiple couples as music echoed around the large hall of his old highschool, his son’s eyes gleaming with happiness as he let out childish laughter. Levi watched from the safety of the dark corner as he admired his son’s emerald coloured eyes, the colour sometimes making him question if Eren was really his child. His Mother did not- had not had such an entrancing green in her eyes, and Eren sure as hell did not get his eye colour from his Father. No matter, Levi loved Eren immensely and felt a small smile tug at the corner of his lips as he watched the small brunet skip over to a boy sitting with a little girl wrapped in a red scarf. Eren was his pride and joy, the little boy never seeming to run out of energy and his silent stubbornness and anger problems always made Levi’s life interesting. The only problem was the fact Eren didn’t have a Mother. Levi’s ex-girlfriend, Petra, left Levi for another man by the name of Olou less than a year after Eren had been born. It was truly heart-breaking for the young man as he watched his highschool sweetheart abandon him with their only child so young, especially when Levi had realised Eren would never be able to grow up a happy, normal life with two parents that would provide and love him.

It had been four years since that dreadful night. Levi and Petra had gotten a divorce a month later after Petra claimed to have been having an affair with another man, this man being one of his closest friends. What had shocked Levi the most was the fact Petra had insulted their son in court, her words vile and full of hatred as she claimed she had never wanted to be a Mother. This earned Levi custody of Eren, Levi more than happy to be with his son, and Petra a hard blow to her ego when Levi had sent back more vile and ugly words due to the anger he seemed to harbour.

A sigh of angst and exhaustion left Levi’s mouth, his hand running through his black hair as his suit crinkled from the sudden movement after being still for so long. A sudden wail cut through the large hall, Levi’s eyes flashing back up to search for Eren in fear he was hurt. His eyes soon landed on a bawling figure lying on the concrete floor, the blonde boy from before looking panicked and the girl in the red scarf trying to calm the boy down as they stood by his side. The sudden realisation washed over Levi as he discovered it was HIS son crying, Eren was wailing in pain and the thought alone broke his heart as the multiple other adults around him grimaced from his wails and glared at the child instead of helping him.

Rising from his seat in a rush, Levi raced towards his son but another figure approached Eren before he could. The figure appeared to be a woman, her (h/l) (h/c) swaying from her quick movements. She crouched down in front of Eren, her (f/c) sundress fluttering around her as she wiped away Eren’s tears with her left hand. Levi finally arrived to where Eren sat with the stranger, his son no longer crying as the woman whispered hushed words to him, calming him quickly and making Eren latch onto the material of her dress. The woman seemed to jump in shock at the sudden affection but recovered quickly as she stroked the young boy’s hair, her eyes looking up when Levi’s shadow casted over the two of them from a new change of lighting in the hall. (e/c) orbs met grey and Levi found himself stop as his eyes widened, the fact of a strange adult touching Eren alone made his blood boil but the woman’s eyes held such gentleness and kindness that it made any trace of anger leave as soon as it had arrived, the familiar face looking at him in shock before a grin traced the woman’s lips.

“Levi? Is that you?” His grey eyes widened at the sweet voice that escaped the woman’s mouth and he soon realised who it was; (Y/N) (S/N). The two were fairly close in highschool and went to the same university as eachother, eventually parting ways after graduation with kind regards.

“(Y/N),” Levi breathed out. You smiled and stood up to your full height, Eren still curled into your chest as you peered (up/down) at Levi. It took Levi a moment to realise you had definitely grown more attractive after Uni, your (h/c) had grown a bit more and was styled a bit differently- more elegant and adult so to say. And your clothing choice had become less tight than before when hormones basically ruled your life, your clothes now flowy and less flashy but a nice and light colour. The thing that had remained the same was your soft smile that still had its goofy charm and your lovely eyes that held just as much kindness and sweetness during highschool, university and after.

“It’s so nice to see you Levi,” You grinned and looked down at the sleepy child in your arms. The child’s green eyes were beginning to droop besides the loud atmosphere. “Is this sweetheart yours?”

An almost sheepish grin slipped across his lips but Levi held it back and replied to your question with his ever monotone voice, “Yes. His name is Eren and he is four years old, almost five as his birthday is coming up in a month.” Levi could feel his heart melt as Eren grumbled something about being a big kid and burrowed his face in your shoulder, your (e/c) eyes widening but hugged the child tighter as his arms wrapped themselves around your neck.

“Eren is utterly precious, he looks like you too.” You giggled and started to unhook Eren’s fingers from behind your neck, “I imagine that you’d like your kid back though, right Corporal?~” Levi’s mouth slacked at the nickname. He’d completely forgotten about it!

To put in short, Levi had earned the title ‘Corporal’ after ending up in a fight with a bunch of seniors in his first year. He had down right thrashed the four older teens, ending his show with the line, ‘Show respect for your higher ups from now on, brats.’ You had been in the crowd and burst into laughter, claiming he sounded like a corporal in the army or something along those lines. Thus creating the name ‘Corporal Levi’ that most people called him through his highschool years, some out of respect, some out of fear and other cause they found it funny. Mostly you.

A soft chuckle escaped Levi’s lips at the memory and shook his head, “I honestly think Eren would be much more comfortable if you remained holding him. He can be a light sleeper and it usually takes a lot to make him fall asleep.” He sent you a shy smile and to say you hadn’t of blushed would’ve been a lie.

“If you say so Levi,” You replied and switched Eren from the single arm holding him to holding him with both. Levi found himself feeling more attracted to you by each minute as he caught your eyes gazing down at Eren with a motherly gaze, much more motherly than Petra had ever been to Eren.

“(Y/N), would you like to go on a walk around the school gardens?” The question had caught you off guard as did it to Levi but before he could apologise you smiled and nodded.

“Do you think we could leave Eren with Hanji so we can catch up?” Glancing at the redhead woman with a blonde man who he recognised was his boss, Erwin. Levi nodded in agreement and the two of you walked up to the odd couple. After a few minutes, Levi eventually had to ask for Erwin to care for Eren for half an hour as Hanji was going on about science and wouldn’t let Levi ask or speak at all.

Leaving the cramped hall, the two of you stepped out into the cool air of the summer evening. A relieved sigh escaped Levi’s mouth and looked over at you to see you had already reached the end of the path, a cheeky smile on your face as Levi raised an eyebrow and reached up to where his ascot usually sat on his collarbone. Discovering it was gone, he finally realised what you were up too and he bolted after you. Levi chased after you, his body still as athletic as the day he had joined the running team and you… Well, not so much. You were laughing too much to get any oxygen into your lungs and ended up slowing to a sloppy jog, Levi soon crashing into you from the sudden change in your speed.

Looking down at you as he hovered over the top of you, he tried to maintain his calm composure but as your startled (e/c) eyes stared up at him in shock and the bits of plant in your hair stuck out, the sight made Levi crack ever so slowly. It wasn’t until you pulled a face at him in frustration did Levi fully crack and cover his mouth with one hand, his shoulders shaking and suddenly he snorted as laughter poured from his lips. Multiple snorts followed after as he fell onto his back and shook, your eyes turning back to normal size and a crooked grin back on your features in seconds.

“I missed your laugh, Levi. Best laugh I’ve ever heard,” You chuckled and poked Levi’s cheek as he started to return back to his usual stoic expression but his cheeks still a light pink.

“Shut up (Y/N), I know your weak spots.” He taunted in his monotone voice, the spark behind his eyes giving it away though and you squeaked in fear as you backed away, raising your hands in defeat.

“I give up, I give up.” You laughed and stood up, Levi following after as he brushed bits of dirt with a loud ‘tch’. You’d think living with a four year old kid would make him loosen up about messes but he was still the same old Levi, maybe with a bit more fun in him now though.

Eventually the two of you managed to get yourselves looking like you did before being tackled to the ground and tackling the other to the ground. It was almost like you two were back in highschool, except maybe a bit more mature than before. It wasn’t until you arrived outside the school pavilion did the two of you then start to ask more personal questions than: What do you do now? How is your family? Still have the hoody I gave you for your eighteenth?

“Hey Levi,” You called to catch the small man’s attention, “Whose Eren’s Mother? I would’ve thought she’d have come over to take him instead of leaving him with Erwin.” You asked and watched as Levi sighed and rubbed his forehead with his thumb and forefinger, the actions causing you to become more curious by the second.
“(Y/N), you remember my girlfriend Petra?” You nodded and your eyes looked at him with shock glimmering in them.

“Eren is yours’ and Petra’s?” A broken grin covered your cheeks and you patted his shoulder half-heartedly, “Congrats Corporal, how come I wasn’t invited to the wedding?” You chuckled softly as envy ate at your insides, the idea of Levi marrying that- that bitch! Ok, maybe that was a little far as she was Levi’s wife now, but you had never liked her from the day you met her. You had a small feeling she hadn’t liked you either.
“The reason you weren’t invited was because there wasn’t a wedding.”

You blinked owlishly, “Wait- What?” Levi turned and met your eyes with his own dull ones, the spark earlier had been diminished and all that remained was the remains of a man whose heart had been broken from a selfish, highschool heartthrob.

“Less than a year after Eren was born, Petra walked out on us. She had been seeing other people besides having a kid, she was even cheating on me with Olou.” Your fists clenched and unclenched as you tried to control your anger, how dare she!

“I truly wish I could’ve been there to help you. If I had known, I would’ve kept in contact with you after University and even visited you. Maybe even helped out with Eren,” You placed your hand on top of Levi’s as your warmth enveloped the cold that surrounded Levi’s hand. “I would still love too, Eren is in need of a motherly figure and I’m sure you’d like some help too. I don’t mind, I would very happily help until Eren can move out and look after himself.” You chuckled and pulled both of Levi’s hands into your own, “But you don’t need to take my offer, it was just a suggestion. The two of you seem to be doing great by yourselves.”

Levi was shocked.

He had expected you to say along the lines of ‘I’m sorry for what happened’ or possibly ‘she didn’t deserve you’ but you said something completely. You had offered something that not many people would’ve done, you had offered your time and even love to raise Eren along with him. No one had ever done that.

“But you have your own life. Surely you’re married or at least seeing someone, and what about the distance? I mean Eren seems to love you already before he even knew you, but still, what about the small things?” Levi asked and faced you with a new found light in his eyes. It was amazing what a little compassion and love could do.

Raising your hand, you showed your bare ring finger and smiled. “Nope, I’m not married and I’m not seeing anyone Levi. And the distance? Well, from what I heard from Hanji was the fact you live in the North of Trost whilst I live in the North-West, it’s only a fifteen minute train ride.” Levi could only stare at you as you chuckled and tilted your head as soft smile bloomed on your lips, “It’s the small details that count.”

And with that Levi pulled you into a bone crushing hug.

~5 Years Later~

"Mom! Mom! Come and see what Daddy bought for you!” You jumped slightly as your rambunctious ‘son’ hurdled into the kitchen with his winter coat still on and dotted with white spots that was obviously snow.

You chuckled and placed the plate you had been drying on the side with the others, draping the cleaning cloth on the radiator as you walked towards Eren as he bounced up and down, the rubber on the bottom of his boots creating a soft squeaking sound.
“Calm down Eren, was it really that important that you couldn’t take your outdoor clothes off before telling me?” You laughed and pressed a loving kiss on the nine year old’s forehead as he let out a soft ‘bleck!’ This ended up with you giggling and smothering the little boy with soft kisses all over his face as you cuddled him, Eren trying to escape as well as he could.

“Dad! DAD! HELP! MOM IS ATTACKING ME WITH KISSES AGAIN!” You continued to laugh as Eren squirmed in your grip until you let him go and he bolted, hiding behind Levi when he entered the kitchen. “Why didn’t you come earlier? I’m gonna get cooties now!” Levi frowned as Eren wiped his face with his puffed up jacket and finally let a small grin slip onto his mouth as he lifted Eren off the ground with his brutal strength, quickly pulling all the clothes off the little boy and folding them neatly.

“Now Eren, your Mom hasn’t got cooties. Big girls like your Momma don’t have cooties and now you’ve made her upset,” Levi glanced up to you and sent a sneaky wink to you as you stifled a giggle, replacing it with a fake sniffle in return which made Eren look at you with large and guilty eyes.

“Ah! Mom! I’m sorry, I’m sorry. D-Don’t cry, you don’t have cooties! Only girls like Annie, Sasha and Mikasa do!” You sent a sly grin back to Levi as he chuckled and watched as you hugged Eren, ‘forgiving him’ for saying you had cooties. The short moment was enough for Eren to believe he was in the clear and he darted off to play with his action figures as you watched him go with fond eyes.

A second later, two arms sneaked around your waist from behind and a pair of lips kissed the side of your jaw. Levi’s black hair brushed against your face and tickled you as he peppered your face with affection, the sweet actions making your cheeks pink in return. This wasn’t unusual by now as less than a year after you had begun helping with Eren, Levi had offered you to move in which you agreed too. Only three months later, Levi had asked you out and four years later this was truly the usual routine- besides the fact Levi was being extremely affectionate today.

“What’s with the affection today?~” You smiled and turned around in his arms, kissing his lips in return.

“What? Can’t I be affectionate to my fiancé?” You raised an eyebrow at the mention of being a fiancé, the two of you weren’t engaged. Where was this coming from?

“Levi, we aren’t engaged. Are you alright?” You asked and tilted your head as worry plastered across your features.

“Well fuck, I must have forgotten!” Levi exclaimed in his own dramatic way. Yup, you were sure Levi was ill or something, this was highly unlike his usual self.

“Levi, maybe you should go to be-” You stopped when your boyfriend lowered himself onto one knee and pulled out a (s/f/c) box from his back pocket, the box opening to show a gorgeous ring made of white gold, decorated with smaller gems that were clear and sparkled in the light of your kitchen. The biggest gem sat in the centre and was a gorgeous shade of green that matched Eren’s eyes.

“(Y/N), will you marry me?”

“L-Levi,” Tears leaked from your eyes and you smiled, “Yes. Yes, I’ll marry you!” The small man rose from the floor and pressed his lips against your own as he slipped the ring onto your finger.

“(Y/N), I love you so muc-”

“JEAN, MY MOM AND DAD ARE GOING TO GET MARRIED AND I’M GONNA HAVE A LITTLE BROTHER! SUCK IT HORSEFACE!”

“God damnit Eren.”
